I caught the Girl Talk show Saturday night at Terminal 5. It was a wild dance/hipster fest and well worth the $20 ticket. Gillis dances like a maniac in between crowd surfing and playing with his computer. There were a few epic moments during the show that will forever define this era of pop music for me.

NYT reviews the concert and has a nice slideshow. Choice quotes…

He isn’t a hipster showing off how deeply he’s dug into his collection; he’s a fellow fan, reactivating remembered pop pleasures.

His main physical challenge was getting to his laptop, reading the screen and hitting the right keys amid the crowd of dancing, shouting fans, some of whom were eager to massage him as he worked.

In my opinion, Coldpay’s albums have gotten progressively worse since Parachutes but still psyched to give this one a listen.

They are also playing a free concert at MSG on Monday June 16th. To get tickets you have to keep monitoring this site for information.

After catching the premier of ‘Where’s Osama‘, my man-date with Fred moved on to the Lower East Side where we saw the 11pm French Kicks show at Mercury Lounge. (A truly epic night, which almost lived up to our 2006 date where we went from Red Eye to Sufjan at Bowery)

The French Kicks are legit. Their previous album Two Thousand (click here to listen), gets solid rotation on my iPod and I was pumped to see them live.

Mercury Lounge delivered – getting me within 6 feet of a band I really like for only $12 – gotta love the NYC concert scene.

While itching to hear my favorite tunes, they mostly played their new album, Swimming, which sounded like a sophisticated evolution since Two Thousand. I’m buying it today. Even though I only recognized three songs during their entire set, they put on a electric and musically tight show and I’d highly recommend giving them a listen.
