Dailypics 1/17/10: Harbin

This weekend we took a trip to Harbin, in northern China.  Here are some observations from the weekend:

  • The big draw there is the Harbin Ice & Snow festival. (I’ll post my pics all week)
  • It’s really, really cold there.  We had temperature lows of -30C or -22F
  • Harbin is close to Russia and there’s a lot of Russian influence on the city (see church below)
  • Worst taxi situation I’ve experienced in China…most try to rip you off
  • Most roads have a centimeter of ice on them, yet somehow we didn’t see lots of accidents on the road
  • We had some delicious and cheap Dongbei food everywhere we went
