I highly recommend checking out Alltop for pretty much anything you’re interested in. Few websites are as beautifully efficient. While you’re there click on my link a few hundred times. It looks like this:
I’m pretty pumped about this and in a way represetns a metaphore for expat life. While we all know that TS Perspective is a killer site, it’s unlikely I would have ever made it on to Alltop’s New York City page.
It’s easier to get noticed here as the community of people doing something online that westerners would find interesting is smaller. Essentially, move a fish into a smaller pond and he immediately has a bigger impact on his new surroundings than he previously had.
This reminds me of Rex’s article about Micro-Fame. Once you find the right community, attaining a bit of reconition is fairly easy. Sustaining it and increasing the size of the audience is tricky.
In all, a proud day for me and a big dose of encouragement to take better photos and to tell better stories.
