Bucket Handle Tear

.

On Tuesday I head into my 4th knee surgery as I’ve suffered a bucket handle tear of my lateral meniscus. Frustratingly, I had this identical surgery (known as a meniscus repair) only two years ago. Here’s some details:

The importance of the bucket-handle tear is that the ‘handle’ may flip over and be caught on the other side of the rounded condyle of the femur (rounded end of the thigh bone) and lock the joint, preventing full extension (straightening) and causing pain.

Surgery is never fun but at least I’m mentally prepared for this one. What will suck are the next four weeks during which I get to navigate NYC on crutches.

With the Labor Day holiday coming up I’ll have about a full week to sit on my ass and do nothing. I’m both terrified and enamored with the potential for this week. Here’s what’s on my agenda this lazy week:

  1. Infinite Jest – A pipe dream but I’d love to make a dent into this book.
  2. Mad Men Season 1 – Bought it today
  3. Google Reader – so many blogs so little time
  4. Madden 09 – My Giants are 3-1 in the franchise so far.
  5. Pain Killers, quasi-constantly.

UPDATE: sounds like Osi Umenyiora feels my pain

  1. I am a Giants fan from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I really liked your blog with the Giants mention item. I grew up watching Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms.
I try to follow as much NFL news as I can with the internet.
