I went to see a taping of The Daily Show today and had a blast. There was a lot of waiting in line involved prior to the show (~90 mins), but gaining a behind the scenes look at one of my favorite shows was definitely worth it.
A few random observations:
- Stewart is really short – no joke.
- His desk and the whole set in general is really small
- Stewart developed great rapport with the audience and threw out an inside joke during his monologue
- Their green screen was pretty thin – resembling a bed sheet- very low tech
- After Stewart’s interview with Newt Gingrich they actually continued their conversation for 5 minutes and they seemed genuinely engaged with each other.
- Most impressive was Stewart’s ability to one minute relate to the crowd by telling jokes about his bartending days in Jersey and the next minute have an intellectual discussion on race and the election with the former speaker of the house – pulling off flawlessly
In the end I had a good time and recommend the experience if you’re a fan of the show. You can find out more about tickets here.
